Product Description
WesTech / WestGear supplied parallel-shaft reducers, worm-gear drives, and clarifier-drive gearboxes used in mining thickeners, wastewater treatment clarifiers, and heavy-industry conveyor drives. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, WestGear housings were allegedly assembled with compressed asbestos sheet gaskets on split-case joints, cover plates, and lube-oil ports, together with asbestos-fabric shaft-seal packing and asbestos-fiber oil-seal rings. Replacement gasket kits allegedly contained asbestos sheet material through the 1980s.
Workers Exposed
Millwrights, plant mechanics, industrial maintenance technicians, and gearbox rebuilders allegedly disturbed asbestos-containing housing gaskets and shaft seals when servicing WestGear clarifier drives, thickener drives, and conveyor reducers during scheduled overhauls.
