Product Description
Turner & Newall Limited (T&N) — historically headquartered in Manchester, England — was through the 20th century the dominant British asbestos manufacturer and one of the largest asbestos product manufacturers globally. T&N’s subsidiary operations included Turner Brothers Asbestos (textiles), Turners Asbestos Cement (asbestos-cement pipe and board), and Ferodo (brake friction — separately covered as the U.S. Federal-Mogul Ferodo line). Turner & Newall distributed asbestos textiles, cement products, and friction materials in the United States through subsidiaries and licensee partners and was a major upstream source of asbestos products into U.S. industrial supply chains.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Turner & Newall asbestos products distributed in the U.S. market contained chrysotile, amosite, and crocidolite asbestos (T&N held mining interests in all three commercial asbestos minerals through the South African and Canadian asbestos supply chain) and that workers who installed, cut, machined, and worked with T&N products were exposed to respirable asbestos fibers.
Turner & Newall has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
