Product Description

The Trane Company (La Crosse, Wisconsin — today part of Trane Technologies plc) was through the 20th century the dominant U.S. manufacturer of commercial chillers, central-station air handlers, fan coil units, rooftop HVAC packages, commercial boilers, cooling towers, and integrated commercial HVAC systems. Trane equipment was specified in nearly every major U.S. commercial building, hospital, school, government facility, and industrial process-cooling installation through the asbestos era.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Trane chillers, air handlers, fan coils, boilers, and HVAC accessories were specified with extensive asbestos-containing materials:

  • Asbestos pipe covering on Trane chiller-loop and boiler piping
  • Asbestos gaskets at flanges, connections, and pressure-vessel closures
  • Asbestos motor and bearing-housing insulation
  • Asbestos-containing duct lining and air-handler internal panels
  • Asbestos rope packing at access doors and damper seals

Trane Company has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
