Product Description
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Reynolds Metals Company reduction cell equipment — used in Reynolds aluminum smelter potlines — allegedly incorporated asbestos-refractory insulation packed around the steel cathode collector bars at the base of each reduction pot and asbestos-fabric wrap layered against the outer steel shell of the potline cell.
According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, the cathode collector bar insulation allegedly provided thermal separation between the carbon cathode block, the molten aluminum pad, and the current-carrying collector bar exiting the pot shell, while the shell fabric wrap allegedly reduced radiant heat loss and shielded the surrounding potroom structure. Both allegedly friable materials were allegedly disturbed during pot construction, tap-out procedures, and full cell relines on a rotating potline schedule.
