Product Description
Quigley Company (founded 1916) manufactured asbestos-bearing refractory products, insulating cements, fireclay-asbestos compounds, and related high-temperature materials installed across U.S. industrial facilities through the asbestos era. Pfizer Inc. acquired Quigley Company in 1968 and continued Quigley asbestos-product manufacturing through the late 1970s phase-out. Quigley products were widely installed at electric utility power plants, petroleum refineries, chemical plants, paper mills, steel mills, naval shipyards, federal facilities, and broader U.S. industrial worksites.
In 2004, Quigley Company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to address pending asbestos personal-injury claims. After complex proceedings, Quigley emerged from Chapter 11 in 2013 with the establishment of the Quigley Company Asbestos Personal Injury Trust under 11 U.S.C. § 524(g). The trust processes current and future asbestos personal-injury claims for compensation under the trust distribution procedures.
Pfizer Inc. (Quigley’s parent company) was the lead-position case-caption defendant in the Allen, Bennie Ray v. Pfizer, Inc., et al case in OBLF St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit (Cause No. 022-10896).
Asbestos Content

- Insulag refractory cement — chrysotile-bonded refractory installation material
- Quigley insulating cements — asbestos-bearing furnace and boiler insulation
- Asbestos pipe covering cements — finishing cements for asbestos pipe insulation
- Asbestos refractory mortars — heat-resistant mortars for furnace and boiler brick
How Workers Were Exposed
Refractory masons, boiler tenders, insulators, and industrial maintenance mechanics were exposed during installation, application, removal, and repair of Quigley refractory and insulating products at industrial facilities.
