Product Description
Permatex No. 2 Form-A-Gasket, later part of the Loctite / Henkel portfolio, allegedly contained asbestos fiber as a reinforcing and heat-resistance additive in its slow-drying, non-hardening gasket sealer formulation, according to publicly filed asbestos litigation records. The product was brush- or tube-applied to gasket faces on intake manifolds, water pumps, oil pans, valve covers, exhaust manifold flanges, and thermostat housings. Removal during subsequent repair work allegedly required scraping dried sealer with putty knives and gasket scrapers, and often wire-brushing residue off cast iron surfaces — releasing dust from any asbestos-containing formulation.
Workers Exposed
Auto body technicians, collision repair workers, muffler shop workers, auto body shop laborers, and used car reconditioning workers allegedly used Permatex No. 2 during engine, exhaust, and cooling-system work. DIY auto restoration hobbyists allegedly kept Permatex No. 2 as a garage staple, applying it to gasket joints during home rebuilds and scraping cured residue during teardown of engines, transmissions, and exhaust components without any dust control.
