Product Description

Peerless Pump Company (Indianapolis, Indiana, and Los Angeles, California) manufactured through the asbestos era a broad line of vertical turbine pumps, horizontal split-case pumps, end-suction centrifugal pumps, and fire-service pump packages. Peerless pumps were specified into municipal water and wastewater systems, industrial cooling-water and process service, refinery and chemical-plant duty, electric-utility station service and boiler-feed applications, and NFPA-rated fire-protection systems.

This page addresses Peerless Pump Company as a standalone Manufacturer Defendant — distinct from the FMC-Peerless Pumps corporate-era line and the later Sterling Fluid Systems consolidation — as identified in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.

Plaintiffs alleged that Peerless centrifugal pumps were specified with:

  • Asbestos-containing shaft packing in stuffing boxes on split-case, end-suction, and vertical-turbine pump lineshafts.
  • Compressed asbestos-sheet gaskets at casing splits, bowl-assembly joints, discharge-head flanges, and stuffing-box glands.
  • Asbestos-containing thermal insulation applied to hot-service Peerless pump casings on boiler-feed and hot-condensate duty.
