Product Description
Payen (UK) and Glaser (Germany), later part of Federal-Mogul’s European sealing heritage, are alleged in publicly filed asbestos litigation records to have manufactured cylinder head gaskets containing compressed asbestos fiber sheet. Payen and Glaser branded head gaskets were allegedly imported to the U.S. aftermarket to service European makes such as VW, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Fiat, Peugeot, Renault, Saab, and Jaguar, as well as Japanese platforms carried by import parts houses, from the 1950s into the 1980s.
Workers Exposed
Court records allegedly describe exposure among automotive mechanics working import bays at foreign-car specialty shops and dealership service departments, engine rebuilders performing overhauls on European and Asian powerplants, machine shop workers surfacing cylinder heads and blocks, DIY shade-tree mechanics servicing personal foreign cars, and marine engine mechanics working with European marine diesel installations that used Payen or Glaser sealing components.
