Product Description

Palmetto Packing was a historic U.S. manufacturer of braided asbestos pump packing and asbestos valve stem packing widely used through the 20th century in refineries, marine engine rooms, U.S. Navy ship machinery, power-plant feedwater systems, and industrial process pumps. Palmetto packing was supplied in coil form and cut-to-length by pipefitters and millwrights at the point of installation.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Palmetto braided asbestos packing contained chrysotile asbestos throughout the documented production era and that pipefitters, millwrights, Navy machinist mates, marine machinists, and refinery operators who cut, fit, installed, and removed Palmetto packing released respirable asbestos fibers as a routine consequence of the pump and valve maintenance trade.

Palmetto Packing has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
