Product Description

Miehle-Goss-Dexter (formed by the consolidation of Miehle Printing Press & Manufacturing Company of Chicago, Goss Printing Press Company of Chicago, and Dexter Folder Company of Pearl River, New York) was through the mid-20th century the dominant U.S. supplier of commercial sheet-fed offset presses (Miehle line), large newspaper web presses (Goss line), and bindery equipment including folders and stitchers (Dexter line). Miehle, Goss, and Dexter presses ran in nearly every major U.S. newspaper plant, commercial book printer, and magazine printer of the asbestos era.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Miehle-Goss-Dexter presses were specified with asbestos-containing materials across the press line:

  • Heat-set ink drying ovens insulated with asbestos block and paper (350°F+ ovens running in-line with the web)
  • Heated impression and ink rollers with asbestos gasket material
  • Electrical wire insulation on press motors, controls, and drive systems
  • Steam-piping insulation on plant utility connections to presses
  • Boiler insulation on integrated press-plant heat plants

Miehle-Goss-Dexter has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
