Product Description
Lunkenheimer Company (Cincinnati, Ohio) — founded 1862 — was through the late 19th and 20th centuries a leading U.S. manufacturer of industrial gate, globe, check, and safety valves used in refineries, chemical plants, power plants, paper mills, pulp and paper digesters, and high-pressure steam systems throughout North America. Lunkenheimer valves were a refinery and power-plant standard for high-temperature, high-pressure steam and process service through the asbestos era.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Lunkenheimer valves were specified with asbestos valve packing at the stem, asbestos bonnet gaskets at the body-to-bonnet joint, and asbestos seat gaskets internally. Pipefitters and plant millwrights who repacked Lunkenheimer valve stems, replaced bonnet gaskets, and rebuilt valves disturbed asbestos packing and gasket material as a routine part of the trade.
Lunkenheimer Company has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
