Product Description

Kewanee Boiler Corporation of Kewanee, Illinois manufactured asbestos-bearing package firetube boilers from approximately the 1880s through the late 1970s. Kewanee boilers were widely installed across U.S. commercial, institutional, industrial, and small-utility heating and process-steam applications — including hospitals, universities, schools, office buildings, manufacturing plants, and industrial process applications.

Trane US Inc. is the corporate successor that took on the Kewanee Boiler product line. Kewanee Boiler products have been named in publicly filed OBLF petitions as Trane-owned Product Manufacturer Defendants.

Asbestos Content

Plaintiffs alleged Kewanee boilers incorporated asbestos in:

  • Boiler refractory in furnace and burner-front areas
  • Block insulation on boiler shells
  • Manhole and handhole gaskets at every boiler inspection penetration
  • Steam-drum penetration gaskets at every valve, gauge, and instrument connection
  • Asbestos pipe insulation on connected steam piping
