Product Description
Johnson Controls International plc (founded 1885 as the Johnson Electric Service Company by Warren Johnson; today headquartered Cork Ireland with U.S. operations in Milwaukee WI and Glendale WI) is through the 20th century and today the principal U.S. manufacturer and system integrator of pneumatic and electronic HVAC controls, building automation systems, and integrated building HVAC control installations. Johnson Controls invented the room thermostat and dominated U.S. commercial-building pneumatic HVAC controls through the asbestos era.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Johnson Controls pneumatic HVAC control equipment was specified through the asbestos era with asbestos gaskets in pneumatic control valves and diaphragm operators, and that Johnson Controls building HVAC installations included asbestos pipe covering on installed HVAC control piping and asbestos electrical insulation on control wiring.
HVAC service mechanics, pneumatic control technicians, and building-maintenance workers who serviced Johnson Controls systems in commercial buildings, schools, hospitals, and institutional facilities during the asbestos era were exposed to asbestos during control-valve service, control-piping insulation work, and general HVAC service in Johnson Controls-equipped buildings.
Johnson Controls has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
