Product Description
H.B. Smith cast iron sectional hot water and steam boilers allegedly incorporated asbestos fabric under the sheet metal jacket and asbestos rope gasket around the burner door and cleanout ports. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, H.B. Smith boilers were installed in apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, and municipal facilities. Cutting old rope gasket out of the door channel, scraping residue with a wire brush, and reseating fresh rope during annual burner service allegedly generated dust that circulated in the boiler room. Section replacement and jacket teardown further disturbed the fabric lining.
Workers Exposed
Residential and institutional boiler operators, hydronic heating installers, and building maintenance mechanics are allegedly the trades most frequently identified in litigation records as having handled H.B. Smith asbestos door gasket rope and jacket fabric during service.
