Product Description
The Grove RT-58 was a rough-terrain hydraulic crane commonly used on refinery turnarounds, pipeline sets, industrial-plant construction, and structural steel erection through the 1970s and 1980s. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, the RT-58 allegedly incorporated chrysotile-asbestos woven brake bands on the main and auxiliary hoist drums and asbestos-lined service brakes on the rough-terrain carrier. Dealer and aftermarket replacement bands and linings were allegedly standard service items.
Workers Exposed
Crane operators, IUOE operating engineers, riggers, and heavy-equipment mechanics allegedly disturbed asbestos-containing dust during hoist-brake band replacement, carrier brake service, and compressed-air cleaning of drum assemblies. Construction laborers working alongside RT-58 cranes on refinery and steel jobs allegedly experienced bystander exposure during brake-service work.
