Product Description

Fibreboard Corporation (founded 1928; the Pabco brand was Fibreboard’s principal asbestos-insulation product line — Pabco Products Inc. was a Fibreboard subsidiary; ultimately acquired by Owens Corning in 1997 after Fibreboard’s asbestos-liability-driven Chapter 11) was through the mid-20th century one of the largest U.S. manufacturers of asbestos pipe covering, block insulation, asbestos-cement pipe and board, and asbestos-containing building materials — sold under the Pabco brand nationally through insulation distributors and industrial supply houses.

Fibreboard / Pabco is one of the most heavily-litigated U.S. asbestos-insulation defendants. The company established the Fibreboard Asbestos PI Trust (later reorganized under Owens Corning’s Chapter 11 asbestos trust structure) to handle personal-injury liability.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Fibreboard / Pabco asbestos pipe covering, block insulation, and asbestos-cement products contained chrysotile and amosite asbestos through the documented production era and that insulators, pipefitters, construction workers, and marine workers who cut, fitted, installed, or removed Pabco products released respirable asbestos fibers as a routine consequence of normal trade work.

Fibreboard Corporation / Pabco has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation. Fibreboard asbestos liability is partially channeled through the Owens Corning Fibreboard Asbestos PI Trust.
