Product Description

Empire Refractories manufactured and distributed refractory brick, castables, plastic refractories, gunning mixes, and insulating cements used to line industrial furnaces, ladles, kilns, and boilers across the steel, foundry, glass, cement, and utility industries.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Empire Refractories asbestos-containing product formulations released respirable fibers during mixing, gunning, troweling, and hot-face demolition. Companion mineral-wool block, insulating cement, and plastic-refractory products distributed under the Empire name were similarly alleged to contain asbestos.
