Product Description
Crown Cork & Seal Company USA, Inc. acquired the insulation business of Mundet Cork Corporation in November 1963, taking on Mundet’s asbestos-bearing insulation product line manufactured 1932-1966. Mundet Cork produced asbestos pipe insulation, asbestos block insulation, asbestos cement, and related thermal insulation products installed at U.S. industrial facilities through the asbestos era.
Crown Cork & Seal’s acquired Mundet asbestos liability has been the subject of extensive U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation, including in publicly filed OBLF Missouri petitions (named in publicly filed asbestos litigation v. Union Carbide as a Manufacturer Defendant). The successor-liability doctrine applied to Crown Cork & Seal’s Mundet acquisition has been a significant area of asbestos jurisprudence.
Asbestos Content
Mundet Cork products contained chrysotile and amosite asbestos as thermal insulation fibers.
