Product Description
Colgate-Palmolive Company (founded 1806, headquartered New York NY) manufactured through the 20th century the Cashmere Bouquet cosmetic talcum powder product line (introduced 1917, reformulated to remove talc 1995). Mennen Company (founded 1878, acquired by Colgate-Palmolive 1992) manufactured the Mennen Baby Talc and Mennen Aftershave Powder product lines through the documented asbestos era.
Cosmetic talcum powder products sourced their raw talc material from major U.S. and imported talc mines — including mines in Vermont, upstate New York, Montana, Italy, and China — that were geologically located in ore bodies containing asbestos veining (tremolite, actinolite, anthophyllite, and chrysotile forms of asbestos). Extensive documented laboratory testing and litigation-record evidence has confirmed the presence of asbestos in cosmetic talc products manufactured through the documented era.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Colgate-Palmolive Cashmere Bouquet and Mennen consumer talc products contained asbestos-contaminated cosmetic talc raw material and that consumers who applied these products routinely over multi-decade use periods, as well as cosmetology workers and barbershop workers who applied the products professionally, were exposed to airborne asbestos fibers.
Colgate-Palmolive / Cashmere Bouquet / Mennen has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
