Product Description

Carborundum sold Fiberfrax as one of the earliest widely marketed refractory ceramic fiber blanket lines, used for lining industrial furnaces, kilns, and heat-treat equipment. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, Fiberfrax blanket was allegedly cut, layered, and pinned in place during furnace rebuilds where legacy asbestos-containing hot-face brick, castables, and block insulation were being demolished, allegedly exposing the same crews to airborne asbestos during tear-out. Companion Carborundum asbestos gaskets and cements allegedly contributed further exposure at burner ports and door seals.

Workers Exposed

Ceramic fiber installers, refractory masons, and industrial insulators allegedly handled Fiberfrax during furnace crown, wall, and roof rebuilds. Furnace-relining crews, boiler-refractory installers, and kiln shutdown contractors allegedly performed the tear-out of prior asbestos linings that shared the same shutdown windows and workspace, allegedly encountering respirable asbestos in the process.
