Product Description
Bondex International was a major U.S. manufacturer of asbestos-bearing joint compound, patching products, and related construction chemicals from approximately the 1950s through the late 1970s. Bondex was a subsidiary of RPM International Inc. (the specialty-coatings public company).
In 2010, Specialty Products Holding Corp. (the RPM International subsidiary holding the Bondex asbestos liabilities) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Specialty Products Holding Corp. / Bondex Asbestos Personal Injury Trust was established under 11 U.S.C. § 524(g) to channel current and future asbestos personal-injury claims to a structured trust resolution.
Asbestos Content
Bondex joint compound and patching products contained chrysotile asbestos as a reinforcing fiber and texture modifier. The asbestos content was incorporated during product manufacture and remained in the dry compound until application — when mixing, application, sanding, and finishing released asbestos fiber into the worker breathing zone.
