Product and Premises Description

American Motors Corporation (AMC — formed 1954 by merger of Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson Motor Car; acquired by Chrysler Corporation 1987; Jeep brand ultimately part of Stellantis) manufactured through 1954-1987 the fourth of the historic U.S. automobile manufacturers alongside Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

Product-vector pathway: AMC allegedly installed OEM asbestos brake linings, brake pads, and clutch facings on AMC, Rambler, and Jeep brand vehicles through the asbestos era, with brake friction supplied by Bendix, Abex, Raybestos, and other principal U.S. friction manufacturers.

Premises-vector pathway: AMC operated through the asbestos era U.S. manufacturing plants including:

  • Kenosha WI — historic AMC / Nash flagship plant (closed 1988)
  • Toledo OH — Jeep manufacturing plant (still active under Stellantis)
  • Milwaukee WI — Nash body plant
  • Brampton ON — additional operations

Each operated with the standard heavy-industry asbestos infrastructure profile.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that AMC OEM brake friction and AMC manufacturing plant premises exposed brake mechanics, automotive technicians, and AMC / Jeep plant workforce to asbestos.

American Motors Corporation / Chrysler / Stellantis has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant and Premises Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
