Premises Description

American Cyanamid Company (founded 1907; acquired by American Home Products 1994; chemical operations spun off as Cytec Industries 1994, today Solvay; pharmaceutical operations now part of Pfizer via Wyeth) was through the 20th century one of the principal U.S. specialty chemical, pigments, pharmaceutical, and industrial chemical manufacturers. American Cyanamid operated through the asbestos era U.S. plants including:

  • Bound Brook NJ — corporate headquarters and major specialty chemicals
  • Linden NJ — chemical operations
  • Pearl River NY — pharmaceutical (Lederle Laboratories)
  • Stamford CT — corporate offices and research
  • Westwego LA — major Mississippi River chemical and pigments plant
  • Hannibal OH — chemicals
  • Wallingford CT — chemicals
  • Willow Island WV — chemicals
  • Fortier LA — chemicals (today CF Industries / Cytec)

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that American Cyanamid — as premises owner — exposed its chemical workforce and contractor pipefitters, insulators, boilermakers, and trade workers to extensive asbestos.

American Cyanamid Company / Cytec / American Home Products has been named as a Premises Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
