Product Description

Allen-Bradley magnetic motor starters — including the Bulletin 509 across-the-line, Bulletin 709 combination, and Bulletin 1230-family full-voltage starters — were the workhorse across-the-line contactors installed in motor control centers and standalone enclosures from the 1940s through the 1980s. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, the snap-in arc chute above each contactor pole allegedly consisted of molded chrysotile-phenolic side plates and interior baffles, and the coil leads were allegedly sleeved in woven asbestos tape.

Replacing burned contact tips, swapping arc chutes, and rebuilding starter cubicles after fault-clearing allegedly disturbed friable asbestos plate residue.
