National Vulcanized Fibre Company (NVF)

National Vulcanized Fibre Company (commonly NVF) of Yorklyn, Delaware was a major manufacturer of vulcanized fiber and industrial laminate products from the early twentieth century through the late 1970s. NVF produced sheet, rod, and tube stock for electrical insulation, structural components, gaskets, and machined industrial parts.

NVF’s asbestos-era products included paper-phenolic and asbestos-reinforced laminates. NVF laminates were used extensively in electrical-equipment manufacturing — switchgear, motor brush holders, transformer insulation, terminal blocks — and in industrial applications requiring electrical insulation and machinability. NVF’s Yorklyn Delaware operations employed thousands of workers through the asbestos era.

Corporate successor liability for NVF’s asbestos products has passed through subsequent ownership changes.
