Spray-Applied Fireproofing

Spray-applied asbestos fireproofing was used on structural steel in buildings constructed between the 1950s and early 1970s. W.R. Grace’s Monokote and ANCO’s Cafco were the dominant products. Iron workers and construction laborers present during spraying — and any worker who later disturbed the material — were exposed to airborne chrysotile and amosite at extreme concentrations.
